A river that is an inch deep and a mile wide looks impressive from a distance, until you step in and realize there’s no depth.  From a distance it looks like a place you can dive in and get cooled off, but when you step in you can’t even get the tops of your feet wet.  What you see isn’t what you get to say the least.

Leaders can be this way, but the reality is that organizations get this way as well.  From a distance they look like a great place to be part of, but when you get in you quickly realize That there’s no substance.  Lots of talk but no action!

They’ve got great mission statements, and lots pictures of their past glory days.  The damage these organizations do to their team members is bad enough, but the disservice they do to their clients is just as bad.  Behind that the false bravado only manages to create an environment of distrust and anxiety.

Do the hard stuff and evaluate one area of your organization where the words don’t match operational reality.  Call it out for what it is and develop a specific action plan to change it.  No matter what Don’t Be Fake.
